Local Information
Weston-super-Mare was once a small fishing village of just a couple of hundred people but is now the largest town in North Somerset and one of the most popular seaside resorts in the country with it’s wide sandy beach and seaside attractions including a long promenade, the Winter Gardens and Grand Pier. The success story has grown since early Victorian times and Weston now has a population of around 70,000 and is still increasing. The dual carriageway linking Junction 21 of the M5 motorway with the town centre has brought a wide range of businesses including offices, retail, leisure and warehousing. Weston also has a growing commuter population as Bristol is only some 20 miles away and is well served by car, rail and local bus services. As a principal town in the area there are the extensive shopping facilities one would expect including the Sovereign Shopping Centre. There is a complete range of housing within the town and on the outskirts, which range from Victorian terraced, flat conversions and modern apartments right through to some grand Victorian houses on the hillside overlooking the town. The renowned Mendip Hills and the Quantocks are within traveling distance of Weston-super-Mare and from its sea front there are views across the Channel to the Welsh coastline in the distance.
